Bradley Cooper Confirmed As Rocket Raccoon’s Voice for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

After weeks of speculation just who would play the voice of Rocket Raccoon in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel has announced just the right actor for the role. Academy Award Nominee Bradley Cooper has been confirmed by Marvel to be the voice of the Rocket Raccoon! This will be Bradley Cooper’s first voice over work for any movie but his brand of humor and seriousness will add a good mix for the rambunctious raccoon.

First appearing in Marvel Preview #7 in 1976, the gun wielding raccoon has slowly made himself into a popular and fun character in the Marvel Universe. He is from the planet Halfword in the Keystone quadrant and is not fond of being called a raccoon. He became a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy when his friend Peter Quill, the Star-Lord, suggest he help him save the galaxy. The Guardians of the Galaxy comprise of their leader Star-Lord, Gamora , Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon. For more detail on each character and who they are check out my other article.

Vin Diesel

In other voice news for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vin Diesel has been cast to lend his voice to Groot! Groot is a giant alien tree type of creature who can regrow himself from any small pieces, whichmeans Groot cannot die very easily. He and Rocket Raccoon are best friends and we expect Cooper and Diesel to have many scenes together, even if they both never appear in the movie visually. It seems Marvel is taking a different approach to the hollywood hunks by making us listen to them instead of drooling over them visually.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be THE Marvel Studios summer blockbuster of 2014. With a release date of August 1, 2014, Marvel is saying this is The Avengers in outer space. Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn and also starring Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Zoe Saldana as Gamora. Rumor has it that this November’s Thor: The Dark World will have a tie in to Guardians of the Galaxy somehow. Also rumored might be an appearance by Thanos, the big bad purple alien who made an appearance in the credits of The Avengers last summer. Marvel keeps pumping out amazing movies and seem to visually and monetarily steamrolling over the Distinguished Competition.
