Is an ‘Army of Darkness’ Sequel in the Works?

There have been numerous reports recently of a sequel to the cult favorite Army of Darkness being in the works. Bruce Campbell, who starred in Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness as the hero Ash, was recently asked by a fan at a Comic Convention in Nashville of the possibility of another entry in the franchise. According to ComicBook.com, the actor tiptoed around the question before giving a definitive answer.

“The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here. Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it. Alright sir, the answer is yes.”

Campbell could have been playing to the crowd and just given fans the answer they wanted to hear, but Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez has added more fuel to the long-rumored project.

We can only hope this is true. Rob Tapert, producer of the original Evil Dead films, was the person to start the rumor months ago when asked if an Evil Dead 4 was in the works. According to Shock Till You Drop, Raimi’s longtime collaborator responded by saying, “That would be Army of Darkness 2 […] Everybody calls it Evil Dead 4 but Army of Darkness wasn’t called Evil Dead anywhere except by the fans.”

I wouldn’t mind seeing Ash beat up some deadites with a walker and a cane. I believe Raimi can find more than enough humor in that.
