First Look: ‘Forza Motorsport 5’ [w/video]
Having played a ton of car racing games, from Mario Kart to Gran Turismo, I’ve had my share of adrenaline pumping first place finishes and frustrating loses. But out of them all — at least for the time being — Forza Motorsport 5 is the best.
Me Drifting at the Wrong Time
Before I write about my first impressions of the game, allow me to first explain my experience on a race track at the California Speedway in Fontana.
About a year ago, I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to test drive almost all Porsche vehicles available to consumers. With guidance from a professional race car driving instructor, I sped around on an actual race track. He gave me a lot of pointers on taking corners and accelerating, all of which never come in handy when maneuvering cars in Los Angeles traffic, until now.
When I was first took Forza for a spin, I played it much like I played all the other car racing games and sadly that failed me miserably. But, as soon as I started applying techniques I learned when speeding around in a Porsche, it all simply clicked and I actually started winning races. Forza is proving to be very good simulation to the real thing.
Me Taking the Lead
The graphics also don’t disappoint and do a really good job of immersing yourself in the world of motor sports, along with narration by the cast of the original Top Gear, it’s a winning combination for any car enthusiast.
